Why Leadership and Spiritual Wisdom Matter

In today’s fast-paced world, teenagers often seek guidance on how to be effective leaders. True leadership goes beyond titles and positions; it comes from within and is rooted in strong values and wisdom.

The Origins of ISKCON in Nasik

Nasik is a renowned pilgrimage center, known for its association with Lord Ramchandra, Mother Sita, and Laxman. The sacred location is famous for their transcendental pastimes. Over 500 years ago, Lord Chaitanya visited Nasik and Trimbakeshwar during his South India tour, marking the early connection between the region and the Krishna Consciousness movement (CC Madhya 9.137).

However, the seeds of ISKCON were officially planted in 1971 when the founder Acharya HDG A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada visited Nasik with his American disciples. Together, they performed parikrama of the holy places around Nasik, while spreading the message of Lord Krishna. They also distributed Srila Prabhupada’s books and performed Nagar Sankirtan.

Growth and Development of ISKCON Nasik

Officially, ISKCON’s activities in Nasik began during the Prabhupada Centennial Year, initiated by H.G Paramhans Das. He played a key role in preaching in Nasik and established a small center in 1997. The preaching efforts grew rapidly through youth outreach, Bhakti Vriksha programs, book distribution, and congregation development within just a few years.

In 2005, the congregation’s efforts led to the construction of a beautiful temple. The presiding deities, Sri Sri Gaur Nitai, were welcomed to the temple in 1999, marking a significant milestone. Throughout 1998-1999, various mass preaching programs like the Mega Janmastami Festival, Gaur Purnima, Ram Navami, and Pushpa Abisheka attracted thousands of devotees.

Present Activities and Programs

Under the direction of H.G Shikshastakam Das, ISKCON Nasik continues to thrive. The focus remains on youth preaching, spiritual development, and congregation expansion. There are currently 25 full-time Bramacharis engaged in these efforts, and hundreds of devotees attend regular Sunday Feast and Wednesday Gitamrita classes.

The ISKCON Youth Forum (IYF) in Nasik organizes monthly Prerna festivals, attended by about 500 boys, while Chetna Festival is held for girls. Additionally, corporate seminars for professionals and a special congregation development program, Parivartan, are also part of ISKCON Nasik’s activities.

  • 6-day basic Gita course for beginners
  • Hare Krishna Festival
  • Bhagavat Saptah
  • BACE facility for college students
  • Distribution of thousands of Srila Prabhupada’s books

Installation of Sri Sri Radha MadanGopal

In 2011, after 12 years of dedicated preaching, the deities of Sri Sri Radha MadanGopal were installed on March 23rd, bringing a new level of spiritual connection to the center. This event marked another significant milestone in ISKCON Nasik’s journey.

Role During Kumbha Mela

During the Kumbha Mela, ISKCON Nasik plays an active role by assisting with activities such as book distribution, preaching, and Food for Life programs. With Nasik being a popular pilgrimage site, lakhs of pilgrims visit regularly, taking darshan and blessings from Sri Sri Radha Madangopal and absorbing the teachings of Srila Prabhupada for a peaceful and divine life.
